Every Indian person has an Aadhaar card, which has a unique 12-digit number assigned by India’s Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI). It is an identity number that facilitates access to the cardholder’s records, including biometrics and contact information, from a government database.
Any person living in India, regardless of age or gender, may sign up to receive an Aadhaar number freely. The application process is free. Once a person enrolls, the database permanently stores all of their information. Aadhaar numbers can only be assigned to one person.
You must let the income tax office know if you have a PAN and are eligible for an Aadhaar number or already have one. Linking PAN and Aadhaar will enable you to achieve this. Your PAN will stop being “operational” if you don’t link it to your Aadhar card.
Link your Aadhaar with your PAN using any of the following Steps:
- In order to link PAN and Aadhaar cards, tax payers have to first register on the Income tax e-Filing portal
- Log in to the e-Filing portal of the Income Tax department by entering the log-in ID, Password and date of birth
- After punching in the details, you will also have to feed in a code
- On logging in to the site, a pop up window will appear, prompting you to link your PAN card with Aadhaar Card
- If not, You can go to Profile Setting and Option the Link Aadhaar button
- Punch in the details such as name, date of birth and gender. It will be already mentioned by you during registration on the e-Filing portal
- Verify the details on screen with the ones mentioned on your Aadhaar card
- If the details match, Enter your Aadhaar card number and click on the “Link Now” button
- You will get the message that your Aadhaar card has been successfully linked to your PAN card.
