The GST Council meeting was held in Lucknow on Friday under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. After this meeting many important decisions were announced. These decisions will have a direct impact on the common man. In this, the exemption from GST on medicines to prevent coronavirus was increased to 31 December 2021. But, bringing petrol-diesel under the purview of GST was not discussed.

Changes in the GST rate of these things

  1. GST will not be levied on the transportation of export goods by ship or airplane for the next one year. This is because exporters are facing difficulty in getting refund of input tax credit due to technical glitch in the GST portal.
  2. GST on railway parts and locomotives increased from 12% to 18%.
  3. At the same time, the GST on biodiesel was reduced from 12% to 5%.
  4. GST reduced to 5% on retro-fitment kits used in vehicles of differently abled persons.
  5. The GST rate on fortified rice kernels used in Integrated Child Development Services Scheme has been reduced from 18% to 5%.
  6. The GST rate has been reduced from 12% to 5% by 31st December 2021 on the 7 medicines recommended by the Pharma Department.
  7. The GST rate on cancer drugs like Keytruda has been reduced from 12% to 5%.
  8. Ordering food from apps like Zomato and Swiggy has become expensive. Along with this, now eating ice cream will also be expensive. Online apps like Swiggy and Zomato will attract a tax of 5%. And most importantly, the tax will be deducted where the delivery will be made.

These drugs will attract so much GST till 31st December 2021

1. Remdesivir (5%)
2. Heparin (5%)
3. Amphotericin B (0%)
4. Tocilizumab (0%)
